Primary Affiliation: University of York - York, UK
AES Member Type: Member

Tony spent his early career working in industry. During this period he held research and development posts in the telecommunications sector, where he designed systems for the public switched telephone network. Subsequently, as chief electronics designer in a small company, he developed communication technologies for people with severe disabilities. From there he moved to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford where, as a member of the Engineering Department at the University, he became a design engineer within a multidisciplinary research team. During this period, he focussed on physiological measurement, orthotic device development and assistive technology for independent mobility.

Upon his move to the University of York, Tony’s interests in communications and assistive device technologies led him into research in binaural signal processing and its application to hearing aids. Central to many binaural audio applications is the need for individualised head-related transfer functions and their numerical measurement and factors affecting their perceived quality are both areas of current activity.
