TT1 - STUDIO DAVOUT

Visit the first independent music studio to be built in 20th arrondissement of Paris in 1965. Over the years many international stars have worked at Davout—from rockers such as The Rolling Stones and Prince, to classical musicians Manitas de Plata and Julia Migenes Johnson. The studios have specialized in music for film soundtracks and international pop. The four studios visited on this tour were recently redesigned by Tom Hidley and feature LEDE design and Boxer T series monitoring.

Sunday, May 21, 14:00 — 17:30

TT2 - SAE & SILENCE! MOBILE TRUCKS

The newly refurbished building in La Plaine St. Denis will shortly be opening and represents a major expansion of the international School of Audio Engineering. The existing and future installations will be presented by Mike Bruck, director of international development. A number of television studios and audio posting facilities also exist in the vicinity and two of the busiest mobile recording trucks in France will be presented by SILENCE!

Monday, May 22, 09:00 — 13:00

TT3 - INA NATIONAL AUDIOVISUAL INSTITUTE

The AES visits this vast complex for the very first time. A number of audio and video stages have been modernized and are part of the education tools. These installations will be visited as well as the national archives, with a visit to the department performing 24-hour recordings of national radio stations generating 28 000 cd rom drives a year.

Monday, May 22, 09:30 — 12:30

TT4 - FRANCE INTER

France Inter moved to new premises in June 2004, with a complete refurbishment of the technical installations (from analog to DAW). This technical visit will be an opportunity to present the radio station’s technological choices and, moreover, the technical architecture set up during the last few years. France Inter’s technical visit will be conducted by Jean-Marc De Felice (Director of Technical Resources), and Jean-Christophe Perrin (France Inter’s Technical Director). Presentation of the News System and the technical infrastructure will be conducted by David. Zitzmann, in charge of “On Air” News systems.

Monday, May 22, 14:00 — 23:30

TT5 - RADIO FRANCE

A unique opportunity to be part of the setup and mixing of a live concert recording session FIP, Radio France’s musical channel, welcomes Emilie Simon for a live concert that will be performed in studio 105 at Radio France’s impressive headquarters. A group of AES visitors will be able to see the rehearsals and the setup of a stereo broadcast mixing, the setup of the sound reinforcement of the concert, the setup of the 5.1 mixing in the 104 control room, and, last but not least, the setup of the stereo mixing in a mobile studio. The various production situations of Radio France’s concerts (indoor, outside the studios, or at festivals), will then be shown. Participants will be offered complementary tickets for the evening concert finishing around 23:30.

Tuesday, May 23, 09:30 — 12:30

TT6 - IRCAM-1

A visit to the renowned musical research center, where a special presentation of current audio software developed by IRCAM engineers for sound designers will be held, as well as a presentation of the Semantic HIFI EU project developing the Hi-fi System of the future, and an astonishing practical demonstration of spatialized sound using Wave Field Synthesis in a specially equipped studio. There will also be the possibility of a visit to an anechoic chamber.

Tuesday, May 23, 13:30 — 16:30

TT7 - IRCAM-2
