119th AES CONVENTION PRESS RELEASE

FOR RELEASE JULY 21, 2005

MAJOR RETAIL SPONSORS JOIN AES 119TH CONVENTON TO DRIVE UNPRECEDENTED END-USER ATTENDANCE

NEW YORK: Gearing up for a record-breaking 119th Convention at NYC’s Jacob Javits Convention Center, Oct. 7-10, AES executive director Roger Furness reports that five of the nation’s leading pro audio retailers have agreed to support the show as Official Retail Sponsors. The unprecedented marketing effort is designed to build end-user attendance.

B&H, Dale Pro Audio, Full Compass, GC Pro, Guitar Center and Sweetwater have all agreed to promote customer attendance to the 119th AES Convention via their extensive mailing lists and promotional activities. Hundreds of thousands – potentially over a million customer impressions – will promote the nation’s #1 Pro Audio Expo to recording, sound reinforcement and broadcast/video professionals and prosumers.

“We are reaching out to the companies who deal directly with musicians and industry pros as part of our effort to draw more customers to the exhibit floor than ever before,” Furness explains. “This effort will promote attendance to both highly-qualified professionals and to next-generation pros making their first foray to an AES event.”

Commenting on their expanded relationship with the AES, Gene Joly, Guitar Center Senior VP of Technology Merchandise added, "The AES has always epitomized the highest level of pro audio technical information.  Guitar Center's entire staff, some of whom are long-standing AES members, is delighted to play a role in helping to grow the show and demonstrate the latest recording and sound technologies to our customers."

Dale Pro Audio general manager Tim Finnegan concurs: "By reaching out to more end-users, AES is making an incredible effort to increase awareness and attendance for this year’s convention in NYC. Dale Pro Audio is pleased to be participating as an Official Retail Sponsor, alerting our customers to the product demonstrations and educational opportunities available to them this October.

“The 119th AES Conventions promises to be a milestone event,” says Manny Steigman B&H vp sales. “We have a long history with the AES, and considerable experience at helping show managers build attendance for their events. Our extensive international customer database is a natural marketing vehicle for information about the upcoming show, as is our ability to reach and serve audio-for-video and broadcast customers."

“Full Compass is a long time friend of the Audio Engineering Society,” adds company VP Sales & Marketing Janine Masten. “In the 28 years FC has been in business we have always been first in following new technologies, and our relationship with the AES has been an important vehicle in maintaining that edge, especially in the broadcast and studio markets.”

Sweetwater Director of Business Development Adam Cohen concludes, “The AES has long been the forum for pro audio manufacturers to show off their latest and greatest gear. The fact that the show is open to end-users creates a place for vendors to hear firsthand what their customers need. We're very excited with the opportunity to provide our customers with access to the 119th AES Convention. We are confident that doing so will make the show even more vibrant and relevant to both our customers and our vendors. We look forward to continuing to work with the AES to strengthen our industry in the coming years.”

Last year’s 117th Convention in San Francisco attracted a record 16,000 + attendance. With NYC traditionally the largest Convention draw, the innovative Retail Sponsor initiative is expected to produce the largest AES Convention ever.

“By helping promote The Convention in their stores, online, in their catalogs and even in their radio spots, these major retailers will dramatically raise AES awareness among their customer base said recently-named AES business development consultant Marty Porter. “We expect this campaign will drive new attendees to The Convention while simultaneously increasing potential sales opportunities and ROI for all AES exhibitors, a classic win/win situation.”
