DEATH OF THE RECORD BUSINESS? REBIRTH OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS

GRAMMY© SOUNDTABLE TO EXPLORE NEW MUSIC INDUSTRY PARADIGMS

Industry Trailblazers Discuss Shifting Music Business Models, New Markets and Strategies, and What Makes Music Matter

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (September 21, 2005) —An innovative panel of music industry movers and shakers will convene at the 119th AES Convention Friday, Oct. 7, 2005 from 4 – 6 p.m. in Room 1E13 at Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Convention Center, to offer insights into the far-reaching digital revolution currently transforming the global music industry.

Presented by the Producers & Engineers Wing of The Recording Academy® and hosted by the AES, the summit — Death Of The Record Business? Rebirth Of The Music Industry: - takes place on the first day of the AES Convention and will bring together a panel of award-winning experts from diverse music business disciplines.

The panel continues the exploration begun June 7 in Nashville, Tenn., where passions ran high in front of a capacity crowd. Expect fireworks as the panel delves into many of the key issues of the digital age, with an emphasis on music technology and its dramatic alteration of business models. Moderated by Dave Adelson, Senior Producer/Music Correspondent for E! News Live, Executive Producer of WireImage Video, and Editor Emeritus of HITS magazine, this panel will bring its considerable combined experience and insight to bear on issues such as the shifting of business models, new markets and strategies, and just what it is that, ultimately, makes music matter.

Confirmed panelists include: Grammy-award-winning producer/engineer/technology innovator and owner of GML, Inc. George Massenburg and Nonesuch Records President Robert Hurwitz (whose prestigious indie label roster includes David Byrne, Buena Vista Social Club, Wilco and Brian Wilson), Susan Butler, Billboard Magazine Legal & Music Publishing Editor; Michael Caplan, President and Co-Founder of Or Music (Los Lonely Boys, Tower of Power, Matisyahu, Por Vida) and former Senior VP of A&R for Epic Records; Jonathan Daniel, Co-Founder and Partner, Crush Media and Management (Fall Out Boy, Butch Walker, Arrested Development, Aslyn).
