Abstract:
In the recording studio the art of modern jazz recording is a hybrid of classical recording techniques and pop recording techniques. In this tutorial how these two worlds collide in the studio will be examined. Jim Anderson is a New York-based recording engineer and producer specializing in jazz and other acoustic music. He has built a reputation in the jazz world with his recordings of Patricia Barber, Joe Henderson, Jimmy Smith, and many others. In this informal talk, Jim will break down the recording techniques used to capture the sounds in many of his Grammy nominated and Grammy winning productions —taking the audience into the studio for insight into the moment of creations. He will play many examples from his work. A large part of the tutorial will be Q & A and discussion, so be prepared to ask questions!
