As Catalonia’s public television broadcaster Televisió de Catalunya is closely tuned to the pulse of its country and caters to the needs and tastes of its audience as regards news, entertainment, and cultural programming. In its 21 years of existence it has become an important reference point for the country. TVC broadcasts to a potential audience of 6 million people and is the most viewed network in its territory, with an audience share of about 30 percent. Its main channel, TV3, is very often the prime-time leader channel.
Televisió de Catalunya has always been, and continues to be, a pioneer in Spain in applying technological innovations in broadcasting; for example, the dual language broadcast system (1997), stereo broadcasting, Dolby Surround, robot-operated cameras, automated systems for continuity studios, and experimental broadcasting of DTT (1999).
