Summary:
The demands of creating audio and music in today's marketplace require a broad range of skills and flexibility. It's increasingly common for one person to handle what once were multiple dedicated jobs: producing, engineering, performing ... and to do them all at the same time. We've gathered five of today's hottest producers and engineers; join as they discuss the tricks, techniques, mindset, and technologies that allow them to cover multiple roles at once - and how you can apply this information to your own situation.

George Drakoulias was a staff producer and A&R executive at (Def) American Records for Rick Rubin, where he discovered and helmed albums for bands including the Black Crowes smash Shake Your Money Maker and the Jayhawks. As independent Producer/Musician/Engineer Drakoulias has worked with Maria McKee, Primal Scream, Shawn Mullins, The Cult and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Mike Elizondo
has shared production credit with Dr. Dre on the Rolling Stones “I Miss You” for the Austin Powers soundtrack as well as Eve’s new single “Satisfaction”. His songs and musicianship can be found on Eve’s multi-platinum Grammy winning “Let Me Blow Ya Mind”, Mary J. Blige’s “Family Affair”, Eminem’s “My Dad’s Gone Crazy” as well as several other tracks on Eminem: The Eminem Show and Eminem: The Marshall Mather’s LP. Elizondo has also produced with Snoop Dogg on “Tha Last Move” and his current release “Nate Dogg”. He also has a production company “Tone Down Productions” with its first release, Rebel through Columbia in early 2003.

Ron Fair
is a veteran record man who is a rare combination of producer, A&R executive, musician, arranger, and engineer. He is responsible for the multi-platinum soundtracks Pretty Woman, and Reality Bites, as well as number one hits by Roxette, Go West, Lisa Loeb and Warren Hill. Fair signed and produced multi-Grammy winner Christina Aguilera who has sold over 22 million records and also signed Lit. He is currently President of A&M Records and produced the vocal performances of Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink and Lil’ Kim for the number one Grammy single Lady Marmalade. His latest production hit is Vanessa Carlton.

Mitch Gallagher
began working in music professionally over 20 years ago. His background includes a degree in music, as well as graduate studies in electronic music composition and classical guitar. An author, journalist, teacher, touring and studio musician, recording engineer, project studio/multimedia production company owner, studio consultant/technology expert, and award-winning composer, Mitch was named Senior Technical Editor of Keyboard magazine in 1998. In January 2000, he assumed the Editor-in-Chief's chair at EQ magazine. His first book, Make Music Now!, was recently released by Backbeat Books.

DJ Muggs’
unified trademark sounds can be heard on Cypress Hill, Depeche Mode, House of Pain, Tricky and Xzibit to mention a few. Producer/Engineer/Musician, he has also collaborated with Sonic Youth and Pearl Jam for the Judgment Night soundtrack. Although he just opened Sound Labs Studio in North Hollywood he still tours with Cypress Hill having just returned from a show with Jane’s Addition.
