W-5 Loudspeaker Array Technology in Audio: Future Directions

Chair: Ulrich Horbach, Studer Professional Audio, Switzerland

Panel:
Rinus Boone (Technical University Delft, The Netherlands)
Robert Hoeldrich (University Graz, Austria)
Cees Mulder (LBP, formerly Philips, The Netherlands)
Evert Start (Duran Audio, The Netherlands)
Mark Ureda (JBL Professional, USA)

Abstract:
By using DSP-controlled arrays of loudspeakers sound fields can be reproduced while preserving their natural temporal and spatial properties over an extended listening area. The workshop will give a tutorial introduction into wave field synthesis, and will point out applications in several fields, such as cinema, sound reinforcement and home theatre. Specific characteristics of different transducer technologies, in particular arrays of conventional direct radiators, horns and distributed mode panels will be discussed.
