New generations of software-based sound system design and control devices have changed the way systems are configured, assembled, and controlled. This workshop explained how the latest developments in sound system design software are revolutionizing the sound reinforcement industry. Attendees witnessed the design and implementation of a complex system, including different methods of sound system control among several sound system venues.

Great audio starts with capturing the sound of the source. This workshop reviewed the current and future directions in microphone design and application for voice, instrumentation, and special effects. Audio demonstrations were an integral part of this exploration.

TECHNOLOGY CHALLENGES FOR
CONCERT TOURING SOUND

This workshop focused on how advances in wireless, acoustic modeling, in-ear monitoring, signal processing, mixing, and loudspeaker systems are changing the way live concert sound is produced for both the audience and the performers. Several concert touring professionals were on hand to discuss their views and experiences.

SOUND FOR MULTICHANNEL
POPULAR MUSIC

The real world of recording and mixing popular music via multichannel sound will be the focus of this workshop. It included audible demonstrations and a description of the evolutionary approach being taken by several industry professionals. Questions concerning ambience, rear-channel signaling, and creation of simulated aural space were addressed in this unique workshop.

W9: INNOVATIONS IN AUDIO FOR
SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT
BROADCASTING

Stereo and surround sound broadcasting have opened up the aural possibilities for enhancing sports and entertainment programming. This workshop provided attendees with a unique look and listen into some of the new behind-the-scenes techniques that have helped bring the sounds of game and entertainment broadcasting closer to viewers and listeners than ever before.
