AES Conventions and Conferences

CO-CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME

"Welcome to New York City and the AES 107th Convention. The audio community has certainly come a long way in the past one-hundred years! From wax recordings to transmission over the Internet, the advances we have witnessed have largely been made possible by the dedicated professionals, who have transformed their dreams into reality. Since the theme of this years convention is Advancing the Art of Sound, it is our hope that other young professionals attending the show, perhaps for the first time will be equally inspired to stimulate the science of audio in the coming millennium.

Each AES convention is a link in a long chain of technical knowledge. Through the efforts of our Convention Committee, we are confident that the 107th link will be a strong one. The workshops, papers, and special events have all been carefully selected to reflect the ever-changing complexion of our exciting industry. The manufacturers' exhibits, highlighting the net result of the developmental process, are juxtaposed with our keynote speakers, who personify the continuum in advances in recorded sound. Today's educational issues will be addressed by a broad selection of student-related events. And, for those who wish to unearth the City's hidden treasure chest of music and sound, many illuminating technical tours have been included on the schedule. After a long day of intellectual exploration, we urge you to take advantage of the many social events, which will be the talk of shows to come! It is an honor to serve as your Convention Co-chairs. We wish to express our thanks to the members of the Committee who have voluntarily worked so hard to make this convention a success. Being associated with them is in itself a reward.

Please enjoy yourself and take advantage of the many opportunities that await you at the 107th this Fall in New York City."

Sincerely,
Kathleen Mackay and
Doug Cook, Convention Co-Chairs
