Workshop W3
Sunday, May 9, 9:00 -11:00 h
CONFORMANCE TESTING
Conformance Testing in Audio
Chairman: Andrew McParland

As audio equipment becomes more complex, the need to test such equipment for conformance with a specification assumes increasing importance. In some areas of the industry, conformance testing by manufacturers is already well established. In other areas, such as digital radio, users and manufacturers are collaborating on the development of suitable conformance tests. Such testing of consumer and professional equipment is highly desirable for the verification of all aspects of performance, especially to achieve the expected audio quality.

Workshop W4
Sunday, May 9, 13:30 -17:00 h
MIXING 5.1 RECORDINGS
Aesthetic approach to 5.1 multichannel sound recording
Chairman: Christian Hugonnet

Sound engineers involved in 5.1 multichannel recording and mixing have to face a new way of understanding spatial sound reproduction. The consequences in terms of perception, sound recording and sound mixing will be discussed from an aesthetic point of view. The debate will include surround demo examples of music and drama. The popularity of this format in home theatre environments will also be discussed.
