AUDIO BROADCASTING
Audio broadcasting of the future possibilities and limitations
Chairman: Dan Popescu

The impact of Information Technology has changed the traditional way of producing Radio Broadcasting. Most of the technical activities are shifted into the hands of programme makers working in server/network based environments, which offers extremely cost effective solutions. In the future, we may accept a lower technical quality of the radio programmes due to the change of production methods and limitations in transmission capacity.

Workshop W2
Saturday, May 8, 17:00 -19:00 h
AUDIO BROADCAST ON THE INTERNET
Audio Broadcast @ Internet: What are the requirements?
Chairman: Gerhard Stoll

Increased availability of bandwidth, faster modems, improved and scalable audio coding schemes will create the opportunity for better audio quality on the web. Will the Internet be able to broadcast not only news but also music channels and sport events, maybe even in surround sound? What are the benefits for the listeners and what will be the revenue potential for the content providers? What are the necessary tools and protocols on the Internet and what are the provisions to protect the music industry? Specialists in the fields of streaming audio, IP protocols, online broadcasting, copyright and watermarking will try to answer these questions.
