AES 105th Convention -- San Francisco, USA September 26-29, 1998

TECHNICAL TOURS

T-1 SKYWALKER RANCH
Saturday, September 26th, 1:00PM ­ 6:00PM
After a drive through the famous Ranch, the group divided into three sections to visit the mixing stages, sound design, editing rooms, and the fabulous scoring stage. The tour concluded in the Stag Theater with a screening of one reel from a major Skywalker production and a discussion of the sound system.

T-2 CLASSIC STUDIO TOUR
Sunday, September 27th, 9:00AM ­ 1:00PM
Take a magical tour of famous Bay Area music studios and new up-and-coming ones. Waltz through history in rooms used by the biggest names in the business. This tour included Fantasy, The Plant, Tarpan Studios, Spark, and Different Fur.

T-3 EXPRESSION CENTER
Sunday, September 27th, 2:00PM ­ 6:00PM
The Expression Center for new media is a futuristic school being built for the expressed purpose of preparing students for entry into an ever changing high tech audio industry. Participants viewed many rooms under construction and heard the design architect, renown designer John Storyk, describe the ideas behind this forward thinking facility.

T-4 SONIC SOLUTIONS
Monday, September 28th, 9:00AM ­ 1:00PM
Sonic Solutions is a leading developer of digital media authoring workstations for audio and multimedia professionals and media production work groups. Tour members were introduced to DVD with a "mini-seminar" and a demonstration of DVD authoring technologies.

T-5 POST PRODUCTION FACILITIES
Monday, September 28th, 2:00PM ­ 6:00PM
Enter the world of Post Production Audio with a tour of the prominent post facilities in the city. Attendees visited Russian Hill/Crescendo! Studios, The Music Annex, and others. An overview of the post production process and tours of several rooms, including one under construction, are featured.

T-6 MEYER SOUND LABORATORIES
Tuesday, September 29th, 9:00AM ­ 1:00PM
This tour visited Meyer Sound Labs, a recognized leader in sound reinforcement. The tour included a facility tour and sound demonstration. Large format and small format systems will be discussed and displayed.

T-7 DOLBY LABORATORIES, INC
Tuesday, September 29th, 2:00PM ­ 6:00PM
In this tour, attendees visited the industry pioneer and a worldwide leader in multichannel sound applications. The exquisite, historical Potrero home of Dolby Laboratories is also the location where the very latest sound technologies are invented.
