| AES EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES AWARDS FOR 2008 |
Emil Torick, President of the Audio Engineering Society Educational Foundation, has announced the recipients of the 2008 AES Educational Grants for Graduate Studies.
Recipient of the John M. Eargle Memorial Award is Hiroko Terasawa, who earned her BE in Electronic Engineering at the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan, and who will enter the PhD Program in Computer-Based Music Theory and Acoustics at Stanford University. Recipient of the David M. Smith Ingenuity Award is Enrique Perez Gonzalez, who earned a MS Degree in Music Technology at the University of York, UK, and who will enter the PhD Program in Electronic Engineering at the Center for Digital Music, University of London.
Seven other grants were awarded. Scott Hirsch received his BA Degree at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and will enter the Master of Music Technology Program at New York University. Iskra Kalcheva earned her BM Degree in Sound Engineering from the National Academy of Music, Bulgaria, and is currently enrolled in the MM Program in Sound Recording at McGill University. Doyuen Ko received his MM Degree in Sound Recording from McGill University, and will continue in the PhD Program. Brett Leonard received a BA Degree in Music from California Lutheran University and a MM in Music Technology from New York University, and will enter the PhD Program in Sound Recording at McGill University. Grace Leslie, who earned BA and MA Degrees in Music Science and Technology at Stanford University, is enrolled in the PhD Program in Computer Music at the University of California, San Diego. Paulo Marins earned a BA Degree in Music Education from the Universiade de Brasilia and a MS in Music Technology from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and is enrolled in the PhD Program in Sound Recording at the University of Surrey. Meining Marcela Cheung Ruiz received a BM Degree and a MM Degree in Sound Recording from McGill University and will continue studies in the PhD Program in Sound Recording.
The AES Educational Foundation was established in 1984 to encourage the entry of talented students into the profession of audio engineering and related fields. Grants for graduate studies with emphasis on audio topics are awarded annually. Recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated talent and achievement, and on faculty recommendation. Since its inception, the AESEF has presented awards to 130 students at 41 universities worldwide. Grants have been made possible by contributions from AES, Inc., the estate of John K. Hilliard, JBL, Inc., the Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio and the family of David M. Smith, as well as other benefactors.
