Upcoming Conferences

Dereverberation and Reverberation of Audio, Music, and Speech

DREAMS

Leuven, Belgium, 3–5 February, 2016

There's still time to register for the DREAMS conference, where Thomas Brand will deliver a keynote entitled "How do humans benefit from binaural listening when recognizing speech in noisy and reverberant conditions?" A large number of delegates have already signed up, so why not join them and network with your colleagues if you're working in this field? Stefan Goetze and Ann Spriet, papers chairs, have coordinated sessions on all three days of the conference, dealing with topics including blind characterization of room acoustics, noise reduction and dereverberation, artificial reverberation, and perceptual issues. A large number of demonstrations are also being staged by participants, exemplifying the technology described in papers.

Audio for Games

Audio for Games

London, UK, 10–12 February, 2016

Early bird registration prices for the upcoming game audio conference close on 10th January, so you'll need to act quickly if you want to take advantage of this special offer. Hot on the heels of last year’s conference, and breaking its two-yearly cycle because of the explosive growth of Virtual Reality (VR) technology for games, this will be the fifth of these popular events. An important emphasis will be on VR and augmented reality in games, as well as in music, film, and non-game applications, including coverage of middleware for games and VR. There’ll also be some hands-on sessions with sponsors, and detailed analysis of a big game due for release in the spring of 2016.

2016 International Conference on Sound Field Control

AES SFC Conference

Guildford, UK, 18–20 July, 2016

The deadline for submitting initial papers and extended abstracts to this conference is 31st January. Sound field control technology enables the active management of audio delivered within an acoustical environment. The three-day conference program incorporates keynote and tutorial lectures, research talks, themed workshop panel discussions, poster presentations and demonstrations. It will focus on the dissemination of technical solutions and recommended practices, which may stimulate new ideas for potential commercial applications of sound field control.

Standards News

AES67-2015 specifies methods for high-performance streaming audio-over-IP network interoperability. At a recent "plugfest" held at the headquarters of National Public Radio (NPR), Washington DC, 11 companies tested 13 products against each other to confirm interoperability. A copy of the report on this event is available for free download by AES members. The results are presented, together with the results of a range of tests of optional operational modes described in the standard.
