The all pervasive nature of digital communication has been brought to general attention by the popularity of the Internet. Although the Internet serves as an excellent example of what is possible, the underlying mechanisms that connect everything together offer so much more than just browsing. This paper is intended as an orientation exercise, containing selected network concepts, to further an understanding of the issues of data transmission, and how these are addressed in the context of digital audio data.
