Obtaining Accurate Responses in Directional Listening Tests

Document Thumbnail

Directional listening tests are increasingly used to quantify the accuracy with which spatialized audio stimuli are localized. However, such tests are dependent upon the listeners' responses accurately reflecting their spatial percepts. We discuss the relative accuracy of a number of response methods, including precise angular increments, coarser directional characteristics, using positional reference markers, template sounds, pointing devices, and graphical techniques.
