A Multichannel Audio Codec System for Multichannel Audio Authoring
A multichannel audio codec (MAC) system for authoring audio is introduced. The MAC system is based on MPEG-2 Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) and capable of real-time encoding or decoding of 5.1-ch audio. To give flexible functionality, it consists of a DSP board with PCI (Peripheral Connection Interface) controller and multichannel audio input/output boxes. As a computing engine of the system, two DSPs, of TMS320C6701, for encoding and one DSP for decoding were used, respectively.
