Concha Excitation as a Means of Introducing Individual Cues for Spatial Hearing

Document Thumbnail

Non-individualized HRTFs (Head Related Transfer Functions) are known to cause significant front-back and elevation confusions when used for 3D sound systems. Additionally, headphones tend to induce in-head localization and back perceptual bias. We propose the method of concha excitation as a means of introducing individual cues that may overcome some of these difficulties. A prototype headphone was designed and tested.
