Realization of technique progress is very important on the eve of the second millennium from the general cultural point of view. Investigation of multimedia technology functioning is presented as an esthetic cultural analysis. The term "multimedia", its place in the culture, evolution of perception of modern audiovisual systems, transformation of audio and visual components are considered. The trend of the confluence of audio and video systems into one conglomerate based on computer technologies is studied.
