Poor stereo imaging is a concept-based problem that is inherent in car audio systems that use normal two-channel stereo reproduction. The main reason for this problem is that the listeners are located closer to one of the stereo channel's loudspeakers than the other. This causes the center of the stereo image to appear at the same place as the closest loudspeaker. This paper describes a method for adjusting the stereo image so that the center image is in front of each front seat passenger. This is accomplished by introducing a center loudspeaker and a Dolby Surround Pro Logic decoder modified for in-car use.
