Immersive Spatial Audio for Telepresence Applications: System Design and Implementation

Immersive environments for teleconferencing, collaborative shared spaces, and entertainment are being investigated at BT Laboratories. Spatial audio is an essential part of this emerging immersive environment technology. This paper describes work carried out in order to provide a spatial audio system for a range of systems, from a single person SmartSpace chair using transaural processing to a multiuser VisionDome using a combination of ambisonics and nonlinear panning.
