Technologies for Recording Unobtrusively with High Quality Microphones

Document Thumbnail

There are several different ways of using microphones unobtrusively. One solution is to place them at a suitable distance from the sound source. Directional microphones have limitations but they do not have to be as large as is often suspected. Used outdoors an adequate windshield is essential to maintain the directivity. Miniature microphones are another solution for unobtrusiveness. Clip-on microphones are not discussed here, but this paper will focus on tiny professional condenser microphones with good signal-to-noise and possible supercardioid directivity. Special mounting or camouflage can help to make them unseen. Finally boundary-layer technique is analyzed.
