Discovering Significant FE Model Parameters with Orthogonal Array Experimental Design

Document Thumbnail

This paper demonstrates the considerable advantages of using experimental design to establish the parameter sensitivity in a FEA loudspeaker model. The experimental design process has enabled the analysis of a large number of control factors and their interactions in a small number of tests. It has helped to identify the 'vital' significant control factors that affect the on-axis SPL transfer function of a loudspeaker in an infinite baffle. Applying experimental design to FEA is advocated as a major step forward in improving the fidelity of the model and data interpretation. It is proposed that the engineering lessons learnt here will be broadly applicable to similar speaker designs.
