Wavetable Modeling of Muted Brass Tones

A wavetable model for producing both open and muted brass tones is introduced. The method uses wavetable matching to model the open tone, with an additional wavetable to match muted tones as well. The new method is much more accurate than previous simple filter characterizations, and results are given for various mutes on the trumpet, trombone, and French horn. The model can also simulate partially muted tones and dynamic muting.
