A New Method for Linearization of a Classical-Type D/A Converter

Document Thumbnail

Sigma-delta converters are gradually becoming more common in audio systems. Nevertheless, classical-type D/A converters based on binary weighting networks are often still preferred. One of their advantages is significantly lower high-frequency noise energy. However, they normally suffer from static linearity errors, especially zero-crossing error. A new method for linearization of all bits in a consumer D/A converter results in a nearly perfect converter with performance close to true 20 bit. The method and the achieved results are presented.
