Singing Pitching Accuracy in Children Aged 7 to 11

This paper describes a system that both measures and provides training for the pitching ability of children. It also presents assessment data from an ordinary school which will enable a comparison of singing pitching abilities for children age 7 to 11. A number of subject specific pitching strategies are highlighted, and a baseline reference is gained by considering assessment results obtained from a group of experienced adult singers. The paper demonstrates that some children are capable of pitching as accurately as trained adult singers. It also discusses appropriate methods of assessing the development of childhood pitching ability.
