Most of the high-quality encoding systems do not take into account any delay constraint. This constraint prevents some efficient techniques for audio bit-rate reduction, such as long filterbanks, filterbanks having high-frequency resolution, long frames to reduce side information, or the bit reservoir method. However, a low overall delay is necessary when a feedback control is required.
