The project set out to establish that digital signal processors can not only beat the audio quality of analog but also deliver cost-effective performance. This was achieved through the development of a microkernal, which enables many virtual or software processors to run simultaneously in a multichannel environment on a single DSP, and a simple control system capable of providing a consistent user interface to any sound processors.
