Comparing and Optimizing Audio Systems in Cars

Document Thumbnail

Several types of audio systems are integrated in modern cars (for example, stereo systems and hands-free telephone). The evaluation of the associated sound quality becomes an important issue for the automotive industries. Comparison of two stereo systems, for instance, may not be obvious. Real-time convolution with measured binaural impulse responses has proved very useful for the evaluation and the design of audio systems. This paper describes the practical applications of this method. Its advantages and limitations are also discussed.
