The Use of Subwoofers in the Context of Surround Sound Program Reproduction
This paper describes initial subjective studies in the subwoofer requirements of a 3/2-channel surround sound system. 24 subwoofer configurations were tested by an expert listening panel, under domestic conditions. Studied parameters included number and location of the subwoofers as well as program and listening position. The results suggest that the quality of reproduction is little affected by the subwoofer setup.
