Acoustics of Russian Classical Opera Houses
Some acoustic problems of theater halls built in the classical style (shoe-box-like form of the stalls and several rows of circles along the walls) are studied. A list of theater halls that were built in Russia and exist today is provided. The main parameters of the halls (dimensions, number of seats, etc.) and a full bibliography dealing with the research of their acoustics are also included. The results of the acoustic measurements in many halls are analyzed, and some recommendations that may be useful for the renovation of old halls and the acoustic design of new ones are proposed.
