Roughness Effect as a Result of Amplitude or Frequency Modulation of Single Components inM. J. Harmonic Complex

Document Thumbnail

The paper presents the results of research on roughness perception in a harmonic complex. This effect was caused by AM or FM for single components. The results of the experiments confirmed all rules referring to the masking process in multitones and that the main issue supporting the roughness perception is based on the spectral model of hearing. The other important issue for this effect is the perceptual grouping based on the fact that the hearing system can remove some nonharmonic partials from the harmonic order.
