The reduction of total bits used for desktop audio applications is a necessary evil. Development of an "acquisition matrix" defined by: sample frequency; bit allocation; function; texture; etc., will provide procedural insights into effective bit reduction techniques without sacrificing fidelity. The area of technical aesthetics of sound design is also presented. The conclusion is a functional acquisition framework offering desktop audio sound design strategies.
