The Effect of Rooms on Multiple Loudspeaker Loading at Low Frequencies

A closed form expression for loudspeaker power output in a real six-walled room, based on the image method, is presented. This model is then applied to a comparison between the power output of a stereo pair of speakers and five speaker surround sound configuration. The implications on the arrangement of speakers for low frequency performance is discussed.
