Cross-talk cancellation and dual-channel equalization using an adaptive filter network can greatly improve the three dimensional perception of sound reproduced over two-channel loudspeaker systems. Existing algorithms show slow convergence rates when operating in the presence of the highly correlated signals expected in three-dimensional sound applications. This paper presents an innovative dual-stage algorithm that greatly improves performance in the presence of highly correlated dual-channel stereo signals.
