A Sigma-Delta Digital Audio Power Amplifier-Design and FPGA Implementation

We discuss the DSP design and implementation of a digital audio power amplifier using a FPGA. We concentrate on the sigma-delta modulator and associated bit-flipping architecture which is used to convert an oversampled PCM input signal into a 1'-bit code suitable for controlling a power switch. We discuss details of FPGA architecture and the optimizations required for implementation.
