The Musical Restoration of the "Joueuse de Tympanon"
A new concept for restoring antique musical mechanisms is described. Having recorded the original sound and noted the static and dynamic readings of pitch and rhythm, an audio MIDI processing system enabled the virtual reconstruction by computer of the musical performance of the -Joueuse de tympanon,- a mechanical musician from the 18th centry. This studio editing work is recommended as a guide for the restoration of this mechanical instrument.
