Determining the Psychoacoustic Factors of Loudspeaker Reproduction in Listening Rooms

Document Thumbnail

This paper presents a complete description of the perceived sound field in listening rooms by means of the relevant psychoacoustical factors. It is restricted to high quality broadcast monitor loudspeakers and control rooms. Seven different listening conditions were investigated including three control rooms and an anechoic chamber. These situations were assessed by means of 24-dimensional quality profiles and Factor Analysis. The results are summarized in four independent psychoacoustical factors describing the quality of loudspeaker listening conditions completely. The determined factors are: coloration, Tonal Balance, Imaging Quality, Reverberance. First results concerning correlation between the determined psychoacoustical factors and electroacoustical parameters can be presented.
