Digital Audio Compression for Professional Applications

Document Thumbnail

Low bit-rate audio coding is a well known technique which will be used in many consumer applications for storage and/or transmission of high quality digital audio. However, the known algorithms are only of limited value for studio applications. This is the case because mixing, equalization, and tandem coding/decoding might modify the signal to the extent that masked coding artifacts are no longer masked and become audible. This paper describes the results of first investigations into requirements and possibilities for coding algorithms which can be used in studio applications.
