The Development of Analog Electronics for Digital Audio Mixing Consoles

Document Thumbnail

Previous papers have shown that a digital audio mixing console requires a high standard of performance from the digital signal processing and the ways in which it may be realized. However, if system-wide performance at this level is to be achieved, similar attention must be given to the specification and design of the analog electronics. This paper examines the level of performance required to ensure that the audio quality of a digital console is not compromised by its analog inputs and outputs. It focuses on the hardware used to build a practical system and shows actual examples of how surface mount and hybrid technologies have been used to give improved performance and increased versatility.
