Adaptive Linearization of a Loudspeaker

Document Thumbnail

Nonlinear distortions in a loudspeaker impair sound quality. An adaptive linearization technique was previously developed and simulated on a theoretical model by the authors. This paper presents new results on this topic. A novel frequency-weighting technique is presented for an adaptive inverse linear filter and it attacks the difficulties in inverse modeling caused by the bandpass nature of a loudspeaker transfer function. The adaptive linearization technique, together with the frequency weighting method was tested on a model extracted from measured loudspeaker data. A substantial reduction in distortion was observed.
