Compatibility of and Conversion Between Multispeaker Systems

Document Thumbnail

This paper proposes methods of converting between the large number of existing and proposed systems of multispeaker stereo and Surround Sound, so as to ensure that program material is compatible and can be used via media other than that for which it was originated. Transmission standards are described based on such conversion standards that ensure that compatibility is retained even if repeated conversions occur in a long broadcast or production chain. The proposed standard conveys all modes using the 5-channel 3:2 stereo system as -carrier channels- for other modes.
