Noise reduction, applied to the restoration of old recordings, remains a crucial problem, particularly when the signal-to-noise ratio differs considerably according to the frequency area. The signal is first separated through a subband decomposition, using wavelet techniques. Noise reduction is then applied individually to each subband. Results confirmed by psychoacoustic tests indicate that a real improvement in signal quality has been achieved.
