Parallelizing High-Qualtiy Audio Compression Algorithms

Document Thumbnail

A magnetic disk playing (or recording) compressed audio transmits just one channel (mono or stereo) at a time, but the channel speed is about 10 times faster than the playback speed. This requires a parallel audio compression algorithm that runs 10 times real time. This paper considers how Dolby Laboratories' AC-2 audio compression algorithm was parallelized for Studer's Dyaxis II digital audio workstation.
