Low-Complexity Dynamic-Range Control System Based on Scale-Factor Weighting
A low-complexity dynamic range control (DRC) system is proposed offering variable compression of the signal dynamic range. It is based on scale-factor weighting in source decoders (e.g. NICAM or MUSICAM). The received scale-factors are used as sound level information and weighted according to the desired static and dynamic compression characteristic. A MUSICAM-DRC decoder has been developed. Results show that the system achieves high-quality signal dynamic range compression without additional delay and without significant increase of complexity.
