Sigma delta modulation is a widely used technique which is mainly applied to A/D or D/A converters. As described in an earlier paper, sigma delta modulation is also well-suited for audio power amplification with high efficiency. However, existing linear models do not accurately describe the behavior of sigma delta amplifiers. In this paper a linear model is presented which allows an accurate prediction of performance and stability. The model will be explained by a design example and verified by simulation and measurement results.
