Recently several systems were introduced into the consumer market which benefit from low bit-rate coding technology. Traditional measurement methods should not be used to assess the performance of these devices. Measurements on a number of systems have been performed using the well known noise-to-mask ratio measurement technique. The results of this perceptual measurement will be presented and several aspects of the coding performance will be discussed.
