A New Method of Controlling the Holdback Tape Tension in Tape Recorders

The maintenance of constant tape tension during playback and record operations of three-motor professional tape decks is a well known problem. The paper describes a new and unique solution featuring a forward regulating servo loop which utilizes a method directly measuring the existing tape tension without contacting the tape.
