The paper will objectively review the nature and extent of hearing loss and music in the light of various research studies carried out over the last 20 years and includes almost 40 references. The conclusion is that while caution is clearly in order, the extent of this problem is frequently exaggerated in proportion to the apparent risk of hearing damage from this source.
